For generations
stainless steel sinks have been stamped out on assembly lines like
bottle caps.
Now, for the first time in generations, a true custom sink manufacturer emerges with the hand craftsmanship that most of us thought was long gone. It is
now possible to have a custom stainless steel sink in your custom kitchen. Imagine... a sink designed around your lifestyle.
A sink that actually fits YOU! You haven't designed a custom kitchen unless you have
used a custom sink!
Comfort should not be a luxury. The thought that "one size fits all" is surely not appropriate when talking about the most used
appliance in the kitchen - the kitchen sink. Let me give you a small test. Close your eyes. Picture yourself in your kitchen. Where are you standing? I bet it is in front of your sink.
That is because you spend more time there than anywhere else in the kitchen. We use the sink for food preparation, clean up, hobbies and more. Take the time to think
about what kind of sink shape and size would fit your lifestyle. Think about ergonomics. Your height plays a big roll in the ideal size and depth of a sink,
so does your handedness. We have
been conditioned by decades of mass produced sizes and shapes into thinking an off the shelf sink is just fine. I can tell you that nothing could be more far from the
truth. |

Right and left
handed sinks:
Yes, there is such a thing as a right or
left handed sink. Sink manufacturers rarely take this into
consideration. They have to make generic sinks. Did you ever wonder why
the drain is in the middle of your sink? It is there because it is
neither right or left handed. How does a drain location make a sink
right or left handed? First, let's look at the most logical placement
for the drain. The drain should be in the rear right or left corner, far
enough from the edge of the sink to allow for a disposer. Why the rear
corner? Picture yourself cleaning a couple of cookie sheets, trays, or
large pans. What happens when you set them down in your sink? They cover
the drain! What a pain! A drain in the rear corner gives you the largest
uninterrupted work surface in your sink.
Now, let's look at the issue of right and left handed sinks. If you are
right handed and you are cleaning food from a plate, you will hold the
plate in your left hand, scrape or spray the surface with your right
hand. Wouldn't it make sense to have the drain on the right side?
Having the drain in the rear corner will allow you to slightly turn the
plate away from you when you are spraying it. This will keep the
over-spray from hitting you! It is reflected back into the sink. Lefties
are no longer second class citizens. We make left handed sinks without a
price penalty.
Why haven't any other manufacturers done this? The answer
is simple. Actually, there are two answers. The first revolves
around inventory. If right and left handed sinks were
manufactured, dealers and distributors would have to inventory
twice as much product. Manufacturers would have to have twice as
many moulds for the sinks. It just is not cost effective.
Secondly, most women can guess this one. Yes, they were designed
by men who didn't cook or clean dishes. The owner and designer
of every Custom Sink by Luxury Home Products is a gourmet cook.
He is also an accredited space designer. The owner for Luxury
Home Products has been in the kitchen design business since the
mid 70's. He was often told that kitchens should be designed by women.
In fact, visitors to his fully functional showroom would regularly point
out displays and say "This was obviously designed by a
female." He would thank them for the compliment and would chuckle
and say he was the female that designed it. He would go on to explain
that men could design kitchens that were well thought out - only if they
knew how to cook! We truly believe that men or women without cooking
skills should not be designing sinks or kitchens. Watch for the
followers... Others will begin to follow our lead. (And they have!) |

Rear
Drain offers additional storage:
A rear drain pulls the plumbing to the rear
of your sink cabinet. What was once a jungle full of pipes is now open
for storage. Who couldn't use more storage in their kitchen, especially
near the sink?
-
Proper
drainage: We use a cross break design in the bottom of the sink to
allow for proper drainage. This pattern allows water to drain
from all corners. A flat bottom sink will not drain properly. Sinks
without a proven method for drainage will have to be sponged out after
each use.

No appliance in
the kitchen is used as much as the sink.
Assembly line sinks are designed for the "average" consumer. They target the market where most sales can be made.
That is kind of like making just one shoe size - medium. Most people will fit the shoe, some will squeeze in and the others will swim in them. Our sinks are designed
specifically for you! Our sink design specialists will assist you in designing the perfect sink for you. We will discuss your height, your food preparation style and
how you clean after a meal. All of these issues are important in designing your perfect sink. The possibilities are endless, your home will never be the same.

No need to design your kitchen around the sink
- design your sink for your kitchen. All
Custom Sinks by Luxury Home Products can be modified without a huge price penalty in time or dollars. For the first time ever, you can have a custom sink for your custom kitchen. It makes sense
that the most used appliance in the home should be tailored to the user, right? Many of you spend thousands of dollars extra for custom cabinetry, why not spend a few
hundred extra for a custom sink? Imagine a double bowl sink with just the right size bowls for the way you cook - taking into consideration your height. Oh yes, your
height does matter with regard to the bowl depth. Go ahead, measure your platters, pasta pots, and serving trays. We can make a sink for you! Call and speak to
our professional custom sink designers and begin the process of evolving your perfect sink. We will be glad to assist with suggestions based on our experience. The sink is the
most used appliance in the home. Invest wisely.

Our professional style sinks are designed with you in
mind. 24 Years of kitchen and space planning design evolved the
only ergonomically correct professional style sink on the market today. The
issue of drain placement is very important in sink design. A drain in the
center of the sink breaks up the work area. You have the ability to locate
the drain in the rear center, rear corner, or anywhere you like - at no
additional charge. Moving the drain from the center of the sink will give a
very large unobstructed work area in the sink. Your large platters will not
block the drain any more! As a 24 year veteran kitchen
designer and space planner, I know that a rear drain will give two
advantages. One advantage is that the plumbing will be moved to the rear of the sink cabinet, leaving much more room for storage. With our design, the sink cabinet is
quite useful. The second advantage is the amount of valuable workspace in the sink. Just look at the unobstructed work area in the sink pictured above. Imagine a
drain smack in the middle! We can even place the drain in the rear corner. That is particularly useful in a single bowl sink. That allows you to put large platters
down in the sink and not obstruct the drain. There is no extra charge for drain placement.

Custom
Sinks by Luxury Home Products use "cross breaks" in the sink for proper drainage. Some
professional style sinks on the market recommend
that "the sink should be wiped out with a sponge after use" because the "water may not drain completely".
-
We also were sensitive to the fact that most of you would likely be using stainless steel appliances. The
finish on most of the residential stainless steel sinks is much more polished than the appliances. We are using the same #4 finish that you will find on fine
appliances such as Thermador, Viking, SubZero and virtually all of the rest. Now, your sink will match you appliances. In fact, this finish will not show scratches as
easily as the higher gloss finishes.
-
We looked at the front to back dimension of the
professional style sinks available on the market. One manufacturer uses a
21" overall dimension - totally precluding the possibility of a faucet on the deck without making special cabinet and countertop depth arrangements. Even if the
cabinetry was modified to fit the extra size, the long reach to the faucet would surely cause back strain.
(What were they thinking?) The other
uses a 20" dimension. That is a good dimension for about 80% of the cases. I worked many years in the trade, hand in hand with granite fabricators. They tell me
that a 19 1/2" dimension will allow for the more fragile stone products. If the sink hole and faucet hole are too close together, there is a chance of developing
a crack over a period of time. That extra 1/2" is added insurance for you and your expensive countertop. In most cases 19" to 19 1/2" front to
back dimension is what we recommend.

Consider
your height: There is an optimal depth of sink for your height. Oh
yes, your height matters. Do you get tired working at the sink? Do you
get a back ache like I used to? If so, your sink is not the right height
for you. Here are some suggestions for the ideal height verses depth of
sink. Remember... these are suggestions based on my 25 years of space
planning and kitchen design, but not everyone falls into these
categories. Speak with one of our design specialists for further
consideration.
Things to consider: (If you
are getting a sink with a rear corner drain)
Yes, a 9" deep is too deep!!!
Most sinks are undermounted under granite, which effectively makes
the sink 10 1/4" deep. That is just too deep if you are going to be
working at the bottom of the sink. Think about this... the
countertop (36" tall) is designed to be a comfortable work surface.
Now subtract 10 1/4" from that comfortable height. You are
effectively working at a 25 3/4" height. Take this test and then
tell me if I am not correct. Make a work surface that is 25 3/4"
tall. Get a paper and pen. Try writing a letter while standing and
using the surface height you have just made. One more thing, make
sure you are standing several inches back from your work surface
(just like you would at a sink). Go ahead, write a long letter. I
can assure you will have a back ache.
User Height: Did
you know that there is an optimal sink depth proportionate to your
height. Oh yes, your height does matter! Do you get tired while
working at the sink? Or worse yet, get back aches like I used to? If
so, your sink is not the right height. After 25 years in space
planning and kitchen design, I have observed the following
consistencies between user height and bowl depth.
